Page two of IRS Form 1040A and Form 1040 both request that you attach Schedule R to claim a credit for the elderly or the disabled. You can not file Schedule R with the shortest IRS Form 1040EZ. The credit is primarily based upon your age, disability, and filing status.
Examples of when to use Schedule R:
- You or spouse is 65 or older.
- You or spouse receive taxable disability income.
- You or spouse are unable to work due to a physical disability.
- You or spouse are unable to work due to a mental disability.
