Printable North Carolina (NC) state income tax form D-400 must be postmarked by April 18, 2016 in order to avoid penalties and late fees. To check the status of your D-400 income tax refund online, visit the North Carolina Department of Revenue website and use their Where's My Refund service. North Carolina Department of Revenue states on their website that the average refund issuing time is approximately six weeks from the time the return enters their system. Expect a longer processing time during peak periods. To retrieve the status of your NC income tax refund for 2015 you will need the following information:

- Refund Amount
The requested information must match what was submitted on your D-400 state income tax forms for the current year. To look up prior year refunds, you will need to contact the North Carolina Department of Revenue service center by phone, email, or mail.
